MOTI TALKIES

A once historic Bombay cinema struggles to make ends meet on the cusp of a Global Pandemic.

A month before the Global Pandemic made all Cinema Screens around the world go dark, we venture into Moti Talkies - a  historical single screen cinema in Mumbai. Moti Talkies is struggling to make ends meet. Here we encounter Sachin, who manages the cinema and writes in his spare time. For him Moti Takies is a temporary home and a source of inspiration. For others it is a respite from the mundane, escape from the rain or a space that transports one somewhere else, even if just for a short while.

Moti Talkies’ present struggle is not unique. It is one of the many struggling Art Deco cinemas built in the early 20th century. If you look closely, you can still feel the glorious past of the theatre.
